In an effort to secure her release through a prisoner swap and save her up to 10 years in prison on drug-related charges, American basketball star Brittney Griner appeared in court once more in Russia on Tuesday.

Griner, a WNBA star and two-time Olympic gold winner, was stopped on February 17 at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport for having vape cartridges containing hashish oil in her luggage.

American prisoners jailed in Russia, including Griner and former Marine Paul Whelan, have received a “significant offer,” according to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who stated this on Wednesday.

According to a source, Washington was ready to trade for convicted arms dealer Viktor Bout, also known as the “Merchant of Death.”

Russia claimed that no agreement had been reached and that Griner wouldn’t likely be traded until the decision, which might come by the middle of August.

Despite having admitted guilt to the allegations brought against her, Griner, 31, has maintained that she had no intent to violate Russian law.

Police led Griner into the courtroom at Khimki District Court west of Moscow as he was dressed in a plain khaki T-shirt and round glasses. Griner held up personal photos before sitting in the defendant’s cage.

The two-time Olympic champion speculated that she may have unintentionally packed the vape cartridges as she hurried to board her flight during her testimony last week.

After some time at home in the United States, Griner had been her way to join her Russian team, UMMC Ekaterinburg, for the playoffs.
