BAFTA 2022: Power Of The Dog Lead and Dune The Nominations List

BAFTA 2022: On March 13, a ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall will announce the winners.

London: The Power of the Dog, a dark Western directed by Jane Campion, and Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic Dune, which received 11 and 8 nominations, respectively, lead this year’s Bafta nominees. The two films will compete for the best film award alongside Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1970s Licorice Pizza, Adam McKay’s end-of-the-world comedy Don’t Look Up, and Kenneth Branagh’s semi-autobiographical Belfast.

No Time To Die, the final James Bond movie starring Daniel Craig, Licorice Pizza, and Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story remake all garnered five nominations each, while Belfast received a total of six.

Along with Leonardo DiCaprio for his performance in Don’t Look Up, Benedict Cumberbatch’s troubled cowboy in the thriller by director David Campion is nominated for best actor, and Will Smith received his first Bafta nomination for his role as the father and tennis coach of the Williams sisters in King Richard.

Denzel Washington, who played the celebrated lead in The Tragedy of Macbeth, did not receive a maiden Bafta nod.

Lady Gaga and fellow US singer Alana Haim each received nominations for the best main actress for their roles as Patrizia Reggiani and Licorice Pizza, respectively, in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts noted that despite her involvement in The Lost Daughter, Olivia Colman is conspicuously absent, as is Kristen Stewart for her portrayal of Diana, Princess of Wales in Spencer.

At this year’s Oscars, No Time To Die, House of Gucci, and Belfast are all up for best British film. The winners will be revealed on March 13 at a ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
