Latino voters, according to the Texas Republican, are sick of being ignored.
Rep.-elect Mayra Flores blamed Democrats for not giving Latino voters enough attention for her victory in a special Texas House election on Sunday.
“They feel entitled to our vote, making the same promises over and over and actually not making anything happen,” Flores said in a statement made on “Sunday Morning Futures With Maria Bartiromo” on Sunday.
Flores was elected on Tuesday to fill the seat in South Texas previously held by Democratic Rep. Filemon Vela, who left Congress to work for a lobbying company. She won the election over Democratic attorney Dan Sanchez, alarming national Democrats.
When examining the issues that influenced the election, Flores said to Bartiromo, “The primary concern is inflation.” “Living expenses. Because of the increase in the price of gasoline, groceries, and medications, everyone is furious and outraged with the Biden administration. They are being severely impacted by that, not just here in South Texas but across the entire nation. Of course, we can see the border problem right in our own backyards. We do not require the news to inform us of this.
The immigration procedure for people who want to enter the nation legitimately needs to be improved, according to Flores, who was brought to the United States from Mexico as a young child.
Her triumph has been heralded as another indication that Latinos are increasingly choosing the Republican Party, but it came with a catch: due to redistricting, she will face Democratic Rep. Vicente Gonzalez in a redesigned version of her district in the fall. Democrats are thought to have a slight lead in that district.
Gonzalez remarked following Flores’ victory on Tuesday, “I hope the DCCC learns their lesson with this before it happens across the country.”
Flores voiced optimism for the fall season on Sunday.
Well, honestly, it doesn’t matter, she remarked. “I have a great deal of faith in the work we’re doing in south Texas.”
