The former vice president won by 11 points over Bernie Sanders, who finished in second place.
According to a recent poll, Joe Biden has continued to dominate other 2020 Democratic presidential contenders nationally, while Elizabeth Warren, who has recently gained momentum, appears to have lost some ground in the contest for the party’s candidacy.
According to a CNN poll done by SSRS and released on Wednesday, 28% of registered Democrats and independents who lean Democratic favor the former vice president over the rest of the crowded primary field.
In second place behind Biden, according to respondents, are Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (17%), Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren (14%), and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg (11%). Only 3 percent or less was earned by the rest of the field.
Since the most recent CNN survey in October, when he received 34% of the support from likely Democratic voters, both Biden’s and Warren’s support has declined. The Massachusetts senator finished second in the poll conducted last month with 19% support, ahead of Sanders’s 16%.
In recent weeks, Warren has emerged as a growing force in the Democratic primary race, sometimes even dethroning Biden in national polls. However, as a result of the increased examination of her ambitious, progressive policy recommendations, her standing in public polls has since slightly deteriorated.
Despite reservations about his ability to win over minority voters, the more moderate Buttigieg has gained ground, positioning himself as a top-tier primary contender alongside Biden, Sanders, and Warren. He has also solidified his position as the front-runner in Iowa, the nation’s first-in-the-nation caucus state.
The most recent CNN poll was conducted following the release on Tuesday of another nationwide poll of Democratic voters conducted by Quinnipiac University, which indicated that Biden received 24% of the vote, Buttigieg came in second with 16%, Warren had 14%, and Sanders had 12% of the vote.
The CNN poll has no impact on the primary debate that will take place the following month because all candidates who obtained at least 4 percent of the vote, the standard for inclusion in national polls, are already eligible.
The Dec. 19 televised forum will be held in Los Angeles and sponsored by POLITICO and PBS NewsHour.
The CNN/SSRS poll was conducted November 21–24 and surveyed 1,007 adults from throughout the country, including 431 Democrats and independents who lean Democratic.
For findings among likely Democratic voters, the margin of sampling error is plus or minus 5.7 percentage points, while it is plus or minus 3.7 percentage points for the entire sample.
