The Women’s Euro 2022 championship game between England and Germany will be officiated by Kateryna Monzul on Sunday at Wembley, according to the governing body of European football, UEFA.
The 41-year-old referee from Ukraine is the first representative of her nation to officiate a Women’s Euro final.
When Monzul officiated England’s World Cup qualifying match against Andorra in October 2021, she became the first woman to officiate a men’s match in England.
She had already created history before that when, in 2016, she served as the nation’s first female referee for matches in the men’s Premier League of Ukraine.
In addition, Monzul has refereed men’s games in the Europa League, Europa Conference League, and Nations League as well as three Women’s World Cups, including 2015 final, in which the United States defeated Japan 5-2.
