Julian castro | According to Julián Castro, Trump wants Russia to meddle once more.

After special counsel Robert Mueller revealed that Moscow attempted to support him in 2016, Democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro stated on Friday that he believes President Donald Trump wants Russia to interfere on his behalf again in 2020.

In an interview with Castro on MSNBC, Castro stated of Trump, “I bet he’s hoping they’re going to do it again in 2020.” Congress has a responsibility to make sure we do all in our power to uncover the truth that the Mueller report aimed to reveal and to hold the administration responsible for taking action to safeguard the security of the 2020 election.

A request for comment from the White House did not immediately receive a response.

Trump has not presented a clear strategy to deal with Russian meddling in upcoming elections in the United States. On Friday, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders criticized President Barack Obama’s 2016 handling of the problem, saying that the administration “takes election involvement very seriously.”

The former mayor of San Antonio made his comments shortly after Trump informed reporters that he had a Friday morning phone discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin that lasted an hour but did not cover Moscow’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

Trump said that they did discuss Mueller’s inquiry, which concluded that there was insufficient proof of a plot between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin.

He commented on the effect it began as a mountain and became a mouse, according to Trump.

Since a redacted portion of Mueller’s findings was made available to the public a few weeks ago, this conversation between Trump and Putin is the first that is known to have taken place. Because he has “been clear that no one needs to intervene in our election,” according to Sanders, the president did not denounce Russia’s interference in the 2016 election during the call.

The press secretary told reporters, “The president has made that obvious to everyone.” “Everyone who is not an American has no business participating in our election. We’ve said it frequently, and we’re taking steps to stop anyone from interfering with our election. something that the previous government didn’t accomplish.

Castro asserted that Trump was trying to “slow-walk any sort of accountability” for Russia’s attempts to meddle in American politics and that the president was trying to “slow-walk any kind of impeachment proceedings” after Mueller’s report could not determine whether Trump obstructed justice.

He’s now prepared to believe a leader like Vladimir Putin, who has repeatedly demonstrated his hostility commented toward the United States and his dishonesty.
