Republicans’ critical remarks regarding Julián Castro’s choice to run for president haven’t deterred him.
The RNC criticized Castro’s choice in a statement issued shortly after he declared his campaign on Saturday: “Julian Castro has made history by becoming one of the greatest lightweights to ever run for president. He was such a feeble mayor that he couldn’t even fulfill the duties of HUD secretary. This is just another desperate effort to support someone else.

The RNC criticized Castro’s choice in a statement issued shortly after he declared his campaign on Saturday: “Julian Castro has made history by becoming one of the greatest lightweights to ever run for president. He was such a feeble mayor that he couldn’t even fulfill the duties of HUD secretary. This is just another desperate effort to support someone else.
He continued, “I know what it takes to make sure we have a government that works properly and to assists inspire people. “I also have a personal experience that I believe many Americans can relate to. I grew up in a single-parent household and attended San Antonio’s public schools. I was able to pursue my American dream by attending college and law school while living in my childhood neighborhood. To ensure that every American may realize their ambitions is what drives me.
In addition, Castro took advantage of the interview to reiterate some of the tenets of his platform, such as Medicare for all, universal access to pre-K, and a “Green New Deal.”
Many people, he continued, “a lot of people, I hear out there, want us to invest in universal health care.” And I don’t think it would be simple to implement something like universal healthcare. However, I firmly think that no one should be denied access to health care when they require it in this country, the richest on Earth.
