According to David Okpatuma, the resource-rich West African nation might take a page from Moscow’s book on how to create lasting wealth.
At the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, businessman and co-founder of the DevCA Initiative David Okpatuma told RT that Nigeria wants to strengthen connections and expand collaboration with its main trading partner Russia.
“The changing of focus from a bipolar world to a multipolar one, where every country is able to harness its canesources… and develop itself before seeking external cooperation and support,” Okpatuma said, was something he would want to see, according to him.
“My main goal in coming here is to make sure that the collaboration between Russia, Africa, and other forum participants is increased and we have better relations.”
The industrialist pointed out that Nigeria and Russia both have natural resources, adding, “We can learn from Moscow in terms of development. We’ve seen how Russia has been able to develop its [resources] and provide its people with more enduring wealth.
To enhance the welfare of our people, he continued, “We want to make sure that we can increase our GDP, that we are sustainable, that we are not dependent on the West or other nations, and that we ensure that we develop better friendships [with Russia] as we progress along.”
