Paulo Dybala, whose contract at Juventus had ended, was Roma’s most notable summer acquisition.
In Serie A 2022–2023, Roma players celebrate a goal against Salernitana.
In his Roma debut, former Juventus forward Paulo Dybala struck the post but was unable to score as José Mourinho’s team defeated Salernitana 1-0 to begin their Serie A 2022–23 season. The game’s lone goal was scored by Bryan Cristante in the 33rd minute.
After his contract at Juventus expired, Dybala moved to the city and became Roma’s most notable offseason acquisition. Roma won the Europa Conference League last season under Mourinho, the team’s first trophy in 14 years.
Despite Mourinho downplaying his team’s chances, the sixth-placed team in Serie A will be aiming for a top-four finish and a Champions League ticket while also being considered a dark horse for the title. In the 23rd minute, Dybala nearly scored for Roma when he curled a free kick over the wall and narrowly missed the crossbar.
Ten minutes later, Roma took the lead. After a Tammy Abraham shot was blocked, the ball found Cristante on the edge of the box, who fired through a horde of defenders and into the bottom right corner.
