The now cash-strapped Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is promising a single village, Nandoli, in Kalol taluka of Gandhinagar district, with modern infrastructure after inclusion in municipal limits.
AHMEDABAD: For the first time in the city’s history, it will be expanded for the second time in just 26 months. The limits were last extended in June 2020.
The now cash-strapped Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is promising a single village, Nandoli, in Kalol taluka of Gandhinagar district, with modern infrastructure after inclusion in municipal limits.
Interestingly, the village was not even mentioned in the 2020 expansion proposal. Apart from a prominent bungalow scheme, Nandoli is largely an agricultural area.
The decision to include Nandoli in the city limits was taken at the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) board meeting on Thursday.
In June 2020, the city’s area was expanded from 464 sq km to 480 sq km, with the addition of the Bopal-Ghuma municipality, Kathwada, and Nana Chiloda gram panchayat areas in their entirety.
Some 150 survey numbers of the villages of Santhal, Bisalpur, Aslali, Garatnaga, and Malaysia, which were sandwiched between the city’s outer limits and SP Ring Road, were also amalgamated with the city. The Bhopal-Ghuma municipality was divided between four wards of the AMC — Sarkhej, Jodhpur, Bodakdev, and Thaltej.
The AMC had 2020 demanded that Zundel, Khoraj, Amiyapur, Sughad, and Koteshwar, be included in the city, but the state government included them in the
Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) limits.
Nando village is adjacent to Bhadaj and Shilaj areas and its location prompted the AMC to demand that it be brought into its jurisdiction. The village, according to a senior AUDA official, has 375 revenue survey numbers.
AUDA CEO Devang Desai said, “Nandoli village is adjacent to Shilaj and Bhadaj, but not within Ahmedabad city limits. Therefore, a proposal to include Nandoli village was mooted a few months back. The final decision in this regard will be taken by the state government. The Nandoli villagers will submit their proposal for inclusion soon.
As Nandoli is close to the city, AMC had proposed that they should also get municipal benefits, and the proposal to merge this village with Ahmedabad city has been approved by AUDA.
