400 hotels totaling 65,479 rooms are planned for Central and South America, according to the STR Global Construction Pipeline Report from June 2014.

The total projects under contract data include those that are in the final planning, planning, and construction stages but exclude those that are in the unconfirmed stage.

Brazil reported having 44,100 rooms under contract, the most of any country in the area. Four additional nations—Colombia (4,893 rooms), Panama (3,631 rooms), Argentina (2,771 rooms), and Chile—reported having more than 2,000 rooms under contract.
