Beijing has reaffirmed its desire for a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine situation.

Beijing has denounced the Russian military operation but accepted that it had good reasons for doing so. According to the Chinese government, a key contributing factor to the hostilities was NATO’s encroachment near Russia’s borders. China has declined to support the US and its partners in putting sanctions on Russia, claiming that doing so is against the law and bad for world peace.
