In New Delhi: The 2018 Oscar nomination list, which was released today, included an Indian nominee. The Best Documentary Feature nomination for Sushmit Ghosh and Rintu Thomas’ Writing With Fire is the first Indian nomination in this category. Khabar Lahariya, a newspaper run by Dalit women journalists, is profiled in Writing With Fire. It follows the chief reporter and the crime reporter as they report on events in some of the most turbulent areas of the nation. The filmmaking team of Sushmit Ghosh and Rintu Thomas is responsible for Writing With Fire’s direction, production, and editing; Sushmit Ghosh also worked with Karan Thapliyal as a cinematographer.
In addition to numerous awards, including the Special Jury Award and the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, Writing With Fire was well-received throughout the film festival circuit.

In anticipation of the announcement of the 94th Academy Awards nominations, Indian Twitter was enthusiastic all day on Tuesday. The Oscar’s long list of qualifying films featured two movies: Jai Bheem, starring Suriya, and Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, starring Mohanlal. Following Dune with 10 nominations are Belfast and West Side Story with 7, King Richard with 6 nominations, including one for Best Actor nominee Will Smith, and Dune.
